Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County

Franklin & Marshall College has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County and the School District of Lancaster to develop an innovative mentoring program. Members of the campus and local community are paired with students from Reynolds Middle School in order to build friendships and share fun times together.

Each match, consisting of a "Little" and one a "Big," meets two or three times a month to participate in a variety of academic and social activities. Participants decide when to meet and what they will do together. Activities can include watching movies, making dinner together, doing homework, and playing sports. Other popular activites in the past have been hanging out on F&M’s campus, going to the park, and exploring downtown Lancaster. Relationships build with consisten time spent together, so the emphasis is on the fun, quality time, not money spent.

This partnership draws on over 100-year history of Big Brothers Big Sisters as America's premier mentoring program model, as well as the local agency's 40 years of experience serving kids in Lancaster County. The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to serve Lancaster County children by offering opportunities for professionally supported One-to-One® mentoring relationships with qualified volunteers. Each relationship will assist the Little Brother or Sister to become a confident, competent, and caring individual.
