Warm weather is finally here! Here are a few tips to stay healthy this summer:
If you're outside training this summer, remember to stay hydrated! Dehydration can lead to poor athletic performance, reduce focus, and may lead to serious health problems. The Institute of Medicine recommends that men should consume 3.7 liters of water a day and for women, a total of 2.7 liters a day.
Summer is a great time to try a new outdoor activity or workout. Hiking, biking, water sports, and yard work are just a few ways to get outside and get moving!
Protect your skin anytime you are outside! Use a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, reapplying at least every 2 hours. Be sure to reapply more often if the sunscreen might have been removed by water or sweating.
When moments of stress occur, take 5 minutes to breathe deeply and focus on the positive. Deep breathing reduces the effects of stress by slowing heart rate and lowering blood pressure. And if "getting away from it all" helps to reduce your stress level, enjoy vacation time or time outdoors with family and friends.
