The Franklin & Marshall men’s rowing team concluded its regular season in historic fashion with a first-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry, Pa., on April 28. The Diplomats won the overall points trophy for the first time in team history, totaling 22 points to edge Washington College by just one point.

The varsity 4+ team of Brittany Sembler ’13 (coxswain), Clement Hsu ’12, Connor Tencate ’14, David Kaess ’13 and Wade Stanley ’15 captured the team's first-ever top finish at the regatta. The Diplomats battled Marietta College throughout the 2,000-meter course, with the two sides exchanging leads multiple times before F&M pulled away slightly in the final 100 meters. The Diplomats finished in 6:48.8, with Marietta close behind in 6:51.7.

While the varsity 4+ crew earned the top placing of the day, the varsity 8 clinched the overall crown for the Diplomats with a third-place finish. The crew of Julia Scavicchio ’14 (coxswain), Jeffrey Smith ’14, Tyler Cohen ’15, Sam Condon ’13, Benjamin Weiserbs ’14, Daniel Clarici ’14, Min Zhao ’12, Minh Viet Tran ’14 and Gregory Hershman ’12 crossed the line in 6:37.2, just ahead of St. Mary’s (6:39.2) and Rutgers-Camden (6:42.1). Marietta finished first with a mark of 6:10.1.

Head Coach Rob Weber was named the MARC Men's Coach of the Year after guiding the Diplomats to their first conference title. In addition to Weber, several F&M student-athletes received all-conference and academic all-conference awards. Hsu and Kaess earned varsity all-conference honors, Sam Alter was a novice all-conference selection, and Tencate, Zhao, and Viet Tran each nabbed academic all-conference accolades.
