Katie Ford’s latest book of poetry, Colosseum, has been named one of Publishers Weekly’s best books of poetry of 2008.

Here is what Publishers Weekly had to say about Colosseum: “Motored by a deeply personal connection to New Orleans and its inhabitants, Ford chronicles the destruction Katrina wrought, both on the city itself and on Ford’s faith—religious and otherwise.”

“It was a happy surprise, and I’m honored to be on a list of poets I admire so much,” said Ford, assistant professor of English. “I hope people will go read the other poets on the list: Bidart, Merwin, Carson and Prufer. Their poems are unruly, fierce, brilliant and intensely beautiful.”

Here is the complete list of Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of the Year.
