Just three months from launching a total redesign of the Franklin & Marshall College Web site, the Web Redesign Team recently finalized the look of the front page.
This past summer BarkelyREI, the Pittsburgh Web design firm working with the Redesign Team, developed several designs in anticipation of a complete Web site redesign in January.
After some tweaking and adjustments, the team has what it thinks may be the look that works. Take a look at the proposed homepage design.
Meanwhile, members of the Web Redesign Team are meeting with faculty and staff to build content for individual department pages.
They are asking faculty and staff to consider whom they want to bring to the Web site and what kind of information those visitors will want.
“You have a limited time to say what you want to say so say it well,” said Sri Dasgupta, director of Web content for the Office of College Communications and co-leader of the Web Redesign Team. “You may have only six seconds to say it, before your Web visitor bounces off.”
The main question the team asks each department is “what do you want your Web site to accomplish?” To answer that, one needs to know their audience, Dasgupta said.
“Primarily designed to welcome prospective students, we’re aiming to create a positive, lasting impression that says this College is the place for you,” she said.
If that prospective student stays and is searching for more information, the site must answer: “where do I go from here?”
