MacHeads Enhances Computer Resources

A joint venture between Franklin & Marshall and one of College Row's newest businesses has boosted the quality of computer resources available to the College community.

Students, faculty, professional staff and alumni may now purchase their Apple products and accessories from MacHeads, an Apple specialist and Apple-authorized service provider. The Franklin and Marshall community will receive discounts on service and select products in addition to special bundles on Apple computers. The College will close its computer procurement center in the Martin Library of the Sciences.

"MacHeads is excited to be part of such a vibrant and dynamic community," says George Blakely, owner of MacHeads. "We look forward to meeting its members and providing exceptional service for their computer needs."

"We believe this relationship will benefit employees and students, both in terms of purchasing computers and peripherals and in terms of service," says Alan Caniglia, senior associate dean of the faculty and vice provost for planning and institutional research. "While we expend substantial resources each year on Information Technology and have a loyal and dedicated staff, these dollars and people are responsible for a wide range of issues related to purchasing, service, technology education and database maintenance.

"Our relationship with MacHeads allows our IT staff to be able to focus a bit more narrowly on other important obligations while we gain the services of a team which focuses entirely on the provision and servicing of electronic equipment."

Franklin & Marshall will continue to purchase College-owned machines through Information Technology Services. However, MacHeads will provide service and repairs for those machines. The Help Desk remains the first point of contact for those experiencing a problem with a College-owned machine.
