About F&M Diagnothian & Goethean Debating Society

Restarted in the Fall of 2007, Debating Society competes in intercollegiate debating competitions across the Northeastern part of the country under the premises of the American Parliamentary Debate Association. Society became an official member of the circuit in the Spring of 2008. Society organizes multiple practice rounds on campus both to help its members prepare for competitions and train novices, as well as provide an opportunity for students who are not as competitively inclined to practice and develop their public speaking skills. Society also cooperates with F&M faculty and administration in organizing various on-campus events, such as the newly-created annual Inter-House Debate Tournament (held in the Fall of each year) and various public speaking and debate events that are open to the campus community.
