  • "Experiment with Depth’’ by Carol Piersol

Carol Piersol ’01 has worked with fabric and fabric design as art since childhood.

An exhibition of her fabric wall hangings, titled “Dreaming Through My Hands,” will be held from March 5 to April 5 in the Sally Mather Gibson Curriculum Gallery in the Phillips Museum of Art.

Drawing and painting helped develop her sense of composition and design, Piersol said. She honed her skills during her six years working in the costume shop at the Roschel Performing Arts Center.

“Some of the fabric is purchased for the piece; other times I have used fabric remnants from the costume shop or the Fulton Opera House and the piece just evolves,” Piersol said.

Her inspiration comes from various sources, she explained.

“I like trees. They always look like people to me, so some of the pieces are tree inspired. Sometimes images of other things form the idea and other times it’s just the fabric,” she said.

There will be a reception and gallery talk on March 12 at 4:30 p.m.
