Degree Works: F&M's New System for Degree Auditing

Franklin & Marshall College launches a new, web-based program next week that will make it easier for students to view their academic information and learn what courses they need in order to fulfill the requirements for graduation.

Degree Works replaces the old audit system that will no longer be available after Friday, Oct. 25.

With Degree Works, faculty advisers can monitor a student's progress toward degree completion. The program compares student coursework with College catalog requirements to produce an easy-to-read audit. Degree Works also allows advisers and students to create course plans several semesters in advance, which in turn helps academic departments with their curricular planning.

"The program allows students and their advisers to plan for future coursework and evaluate possible major or minor changes," said Sarah Esh, assistant registrar.

Among the program's other features, advisers can save notes that will be visible to the student as well as the student's other advisers. The program also includes a grade point average calculator so students can determine what level of performance they need to achieve to attain a desired GPA.

Training materials and announcements are available on the Project Boost website for advisers and students. Student information sessions are scheduled at 5 p.m. in the Bonchek Lecture Hall of the Barshinger Life Sciences & Philosophy Building on Monday, October 18; 11:30 a.m. in the Lisa Bonchek Adams Auditorium in Kaufman Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 29; and 5 p.m. in the Bonchek Lecture Hall of the Barshinger Life Sciences & Philosophy Building on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
