F&M Closed for Non-essential Staff March 6 Due to Snowstorm

Because of a severe snowstorm forecasted to move through the Lancaster County area, Franklin & Marshall College will be closed except for critical and essential staff Wednesday, March 6. Essential employees will receive guidance from their supervisors about reporting to work.

In accordance with regular College policy, individual faculty members will determine whether to hold classes, at their discretion, and will send emails directly to their students if a class will not be held because the professor is unable to travel because of weather conditions. Members of sports teams will learn directly from their coaches of any changes to athletics matches or practices. Students have been encouraged to monitor their email closely.

Members of the campus community who remain unable to travel to campus because of road conditions after the campus re-opens Thursday are being advised that they may use a vacation day, per F&M's Human Resources policy.

The main dining hall and Zebi will operate on their normal schedules, while other campus administrative buildings will be closed.

All members of the community are encouraged to avoid walking around campus unnecessarily during the period of heaviest snowfall, to charge electronics, and to unplug electronic devices, including computers and televisions to guard against any power outages that could damage that equipment. All residential facilities on the core campus have auxiliary power in event of power failure, though this power should be conserved for heating and lighting.

The F&M home page, www.fandm.edu, continues to be the primary source for general information about campus openings and closures, and information also is available on the College's Emergency Weather Line at 717-291-4003. In the unlikely event that extreme or extended power outages make it impossible for F&M to update the home page, the College will continue to provide basic information via F&M's Facebook page and Twitter feed.

F&M maintains an Emergency Preparation Guidelines website at www.fandm.edu/prepare. The College's Office of Human Resources also maintains a weather emergencies page for employees.
