  • The Franklin & Marshall College Poll says 58 percent of Pennsylvanians have confidence Gov. Ed Rendell will fix state budget woes.

The February 2009 Franklin & Marshall College Poll finds Pennsylvania residents are experiencing significant economic hardships. Yet, they remain confident that President Barack Obama and Gov. Ed Rendell will resolve those problems.

Of those polled, 53 percent said they have experienced some form of economic hardship, including 17 percent who said they were unemployed and 14 percent who said they were unable to buy enough food because they couldn’t afford it. Nearly one in three, or 29 percent, reported a reduction in their pay.

Despite the sour news, 70 percent said they felt positive about Obama’s ability to manage the country’s economic problems, and 58 percent expressed confidence in Gov. Rendell’s ability to manage the state’s budget problems.

The poll, conducted between Feb. 17 and 22 is based on interviews with 644 adult state residents. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percent.

The Franklin & Marshall College Poll is conducted by the Center for Politics and Public Affairs of the College’s Floyd Institute for Public Policy Analysis.
