Educational Outreach Volunteer Opportunities

Do you enjoy working with kids? Do you have a passion for a particular academic subject? Are you interested in teaching as a profession? Do you want to make a difference in another student’s life? Then becoming a tutor may be for you! The Ware Institute’s Educational Outreach volunteers assist in various classrooms as in-class assistants, provide one-on-one tutoring to students and help with after-school programs.


Edcuational Outreach Volunteer Opportunities

Wharton Elementary School

Location: 705 N. Mary Street  (Walking distance)

At Wharton Elementary School, volunteers provide in-class support for teachers and one-on-one tutoring.
This is an opportunity to help students with poor English skills.
Hours: Monday through Friday at various times depending on classroom.
Volunteers always needed!

Reynolds Middle School
Location: 605 W. Walnut Street  (Walking distance)

Reynolds Middle School provides opportunities for volunteers that provide in-class support for teachers or one-on-one tutoring with students. Volunteers can choose from a variety of grades, subjects, days and times. There are opportunities to work with ESL teachers and classes. Hours: Monday through Friday at various times depending on classroom. Volunteers always needed!

After School Programs:

Wharton Elementary
Buchanan Elementary School
Literacy Corps volunteers works with one or two students for half hour sessions focused on reading exercises or games.
Hours: Monday-Friday 9-10:50am
Volunteers needed at the beginning of the semester.
 

Boys & Girls Club, Jack Walker Clubhouse
Location: 231 W. Lemon Street  (Walking distance)

The Boys & Girls Club provides an array of programs to help the youth in Lancaster reach their full potential.  The clubhouse has a huge game room, full-size gym, computer lab and art room. Volunteers can help students with homework and upcoming projects or just hang out and have fun.

McCaskey East High School
Location: 1051 Lehigh Avenue
-    In class tutors are needed to help support the International School which provides intensive ESL support and content-based ESL instruction in a one year program for non-English proficient students, grades 7-12.

-    Project GRAD, works with 11th or 12th grade students individually or in groups to practice different components of the ACT test.
