  • Campus Holiday gift and food drive

FPS & Students

The 301 wishes of the 2011 Gift and Food Drive have all been fulfilled thanks to YOU, FPS & Students!

It is a busy time of year and so many of you purchased gifts; took time to shop, wrap, and deliver them to the office. You also provided two grocery cart loads of food and two boxfuls of toys to the U.S. Marine's Toys for Tots gift drive. We are also grateful to the F&M SWAT "Elves" for their invaluable assistance with gift delivery!

Everyone at the Ware Institute staff is deeply grateful for the largest response to the gift drive since it began. May you all enjoy a very happy holiday season and new year. THANK YOU!

Warmly,
Sandi Smoker

  • carter and macrae elementary school

Homeless Student Project - The School District of Lancaster
The students qualified as "homeless" by the School District of Lancaster are largely at the elementary level, have no permanent residence, no reliable income, and no certainty of persevering through graduation. Even worse, these students are at high risk of following their parents’ footsteps into a homeless adulthood. The district’s Homeless Students Project, headquartered at Carter and MacRae Elementary School, works to foster a sense of normalcy for these students—connecting them with services, keeping them in school, and helping them break the oppressive cycle of family poverty.

  • SACA Senior Center

Spanish American Civic Association (SACA) Seniors
Enhancing the quality of life for our most vulnerable citizens.
Drop into the Luis Munoz Marin Senior Center any weekday morning and you will see a lively community at work as Hispanics and seniors from all over Lancaster County get together for a hot breakfast, a bit of socializing and maybe a spirited game of dominos or cards. The center provides activities like Spanish news and conversation groups, mental health support, yoga classes, music appreciation or arts and crafts.

There are SACA staff available to help with household problems, getting financial or medical help or acting as an advocate in a situation that needs help with language and communication. There is even help finding a senior job to help make ends meet.

If you have much, give of your wealth;
if you have little, give of your heart.
