Research Interests
We use organic synthesis to build molecular knots and to make probes that are used to study DNA. Our targets include the world's smallest knot, the first polyethylene trefoil knot, and the first non-DNA figure eight knot. Research on measuring the electric field of nucleic acids using the vibrational Stark effect and 15N NMR of nitrile (CN) probes is also being conducted. See sidebar for more Fenlon Research information.
