Foundations For Success

Develop Effective Search Skills and Network with Alumni

I am excited to introduce Foundations For Success, a new and innovative program being launched by Career Services this Fall.

Foundations For Success is designed to assist students who plan to conduct a job or internship search this year. Opportunities to network with alumni and to develop effective search skills are the hallmarks of this 1-year coaching intensive program.

In keeping with the tradition of a Liberal Arts education, you will be challenged to think of your internship or career search in a different way, expand the scope of what you view as possible in the world of work, and question your assumptions about key components of conducting a search.

Among other activities, this program will include values and core competency assessments, interactive lessons on a variety of search topics and techniques, opportunities to practice developing skills, interaction with alumni who are eager to engage with students, and individual appointments with a career coach.

Program Schedule

Foundations For Success group events will be held in the evenings, while individual coaching appointments, a required component of the program, will be held during the day arranged around student's academic schedules. Mandatory components of the program include:

  • Orientation and 4-6 interactive group learning experiences (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
  • 3 individual meetings with career coach (30 minutes in length)
  • Completion of workbook and projects as assigned (4-6 assignments)
  • Alumni networking dinner
  • Additional optional development opportunities will be available
