Business Travel Accident Insurance

Faculty and professional staff are eligible for insurance coverage while traveling on pre-approved College business. Please see the Group Business Travel Accident Insurance Summary Plan Description for important information, including information about exclusions and benefit limits.

Eligibility

Full-time and part-time College faculty and professional staff in active status are eligible for Business Travel Accident Insurance coverage immediately upon hire.   

Beneficiary Designation

Each eligible employee may designate his/her beneficiary(ies) for Business Travel Accident Insurance.  Unless an employee designates his/her beneficiary in writing and provides such designation to Human Resources, the employee's life insurance beneficiary(ies) will be the beneficiary of Travel Accident Insurance.

Benefits - Full-time Employees

If a full-time College employee dies as a result of a covered accident which occurs while traveling on pre-authorized College business, the employee's beneficiary(ies) will receive a $250,000 benefit from the insurer.

In the event of partial accidental loss, as listed below, in a covered accident, the following benefits, expressed as a percentage of $250,000, will be payable, up to a maximum of $250,000:

Speech and Hearing --- 100%

Speech and one of: Hand, Foot, or Sight of One Eye --- 100%

Hearing and one of: Hand, Foot, or Sight of One Eye --- 100%

Both Hands, Both Feet, or Sight of Both Eyes, or a combination of a Hand, a Foot, or Sight of One Eye --- 100%

One Hand or One Foot or Sight of One Eye --- 50%

Speech or Hearing --- 50%

Thumb and Index Finger of the same Hand --- 25%

 

Benefits - Part-time Employees

In the event of the death of a part-time College employee as a result of a covered accident while traveling on pre-authorized College business, the employee's beneficiary(ies) will receive $50,000. In the event of a partial loss, as described above, in a covered accident, the benefits above, expressed as a percentage of $50,000, will be payable.

If an eligible employee has multiple losses as the result of one covered accident, he/she will receive the single largest benefit amount applicable to the losses suffered.

This Business Travel Accident Insurance coverage is in addition to, and separate from, any other College-funded life insurance program.
