Friends of The Phillips

It's an exciting time to be a Friend of The Phillips Museum of Art. This year we revamped our membership program by organizing a docented trip to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia; by celebrating two important Friends, Carol Faill, former director, and Ellen Groff, former chair of the Trustee's Collections Committee, at an end-of-year gala; and by launching the first issue of the Friends of The Phillips Newsletter.

We hope you enjoy reading about the many wonderful programs and exhibits at The Phillips Museum of Art and will consider joining the Friends of the Phillips today.

An Iris Evening Cocktail Reception
Friday, April 25, 2008
"An Iris Evening" was a wine and cheese reception in honor of the Friends of The Phillips Museum. We enjoyed a lovely spring evening in The Humanities Commons of the Barshinger Life Sciences and Philosophy building. The room's French doors opened to a garden where trees and flowers were in full bloom, and Tom Pontz provided piano music to set the mood.
During the reception, we honored Carol Faill (left) and Ellen Groff (right) for their many years of dedication and support -- Ellen as a Lancaster art angel who has recently retired as Chair of the Trustees Art Collections Committee and Carol Faill for 27 years as guardian, steward, curator, director, and developer of the college's art collections. The Museum presented them with bouquets and each were given a fraktur created by Lancaster artist Julie Kohler.
The Hon. Richard Gray, Mayor of Lancaster (below), was present with Gail, his wife. Rick made remarks concerning the arts and their importance in our civilization.
