For Faculty and Professional Staff

The Office of the Provost, Academic Grants Office, at Franklin & Marshall College provides guidance to faculty seeking both external and internal funding. The grants management office reviews grant proposals and advises faculty regarding budgets and institutional commitments for external grants. Some external grants are funded through private foundations and corporations (e.g., Research Corporation, American Chemical Society, Merck, etc.), while the majority are from public funding sources (e.g., NSF, NIH, NEH, ONR, etc.).

The Academic Grants Office also administers internally funded research grants that are made possible through specific endowments and institutional funds. The Committee on Grants (COG), a standing committee appointed by Faculty Council, convenes approximately five times throughout the academic year to award faculty grants. These grants provide seed money for projects that will eventually attract outside funding or support work where outside funds are not available.

The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) has primary responsibility in Franklin & Marshall's advancement program for the College's associations with corporate and foundation institutional grant-makers. CFR identifies, cultivates, and solicits foundations and corporations for capital and term support of the College's priority needs, including scholarships, faculty chairs, equipment, facilities, endowment, and programs. Through CFR, Franklin & Marshall's faculty and administrators are able to tap into a variety of resources that can bolster their efforts to attract funding. These resources include assistance with research to identify potential funding sources, guidance in the planning and coordination of approaches to funders, and on-going efforts to keep the College in close touch with higher-education philanthropy.

To reach us: CFR is located on the second floor of College Square, in the College Advancement suite of offices.
