Dear Parent or Family Member,
I am delighted that your child is considering Franklin & Marshall College. In my role as Director of Parent Relations, allow me to extend my personal welcome to you.
At Franklin & Marshall, we like to consider our students’ families as an important constituency and a part of the community. We know that your support and guidance will continue through the college years even as your student gains independence and moves toward adulthood.
As your student explores the opportunities available at the College, I’d like to share with you some of the advantages of being a Franklin & Marshall parent.
- Lancaster, Pa. is a lovely place to visit. The oldest inland city in the country, Lancaster offers all the advantages of lively, small urban center just steps away from campus. Some 40 art galleries, scores of restaurants, shops and boutiques, are just blocks away. We have Central Market, the oldest continuously operating farmers’ market in the U.S.
- The Lancaster Amtrak Station gives our students easy access to nearby cities including Philadelphia (approximately one hour away by train), New York and Washington, D.C. (both approximately three hours by train). That means they can more easily get home without a car.
- The Red Rose Transit Authority offers city busing to our students at a discounted rate.
- Franklin & Marshall’s College House System provides parents with confidence that our students are members of one of four college houses, and are surrounded by classmates, faculty and administrators who know them by name.
- President Fry is a big believer in keeping parents in the loop. When something important happens, you’ll receive a timely e-mail directly from him. In addition, my office sends regular e-newsletters to parents to keep you informed and engaged in what’s happening on campus.
