Who are we?
The Ski Club is an entity that exists for the benefit of all Franklin & Marshall students. It promotes skiing and snowboarding as a fitness and recreational activity. It also provides financial assistance to make skiing and snowboarding more affordable for students.
What do we do?
Ski and snowboard.
During the winter season, students can find college life uneventful and limited to indoor activities. Post winter break, the majority of college varsity and club sports are not in season. Skiing and snowboarding serve as excellent extracurricular activities during the months of January, February, and even March. In this respect, skiing and snowboarding are two of the only college activities that celebrate winter, unlike other activities, for being “cold and snowy."
Not only does skiing/snowboarding expose the student to outdoor recreation, but also allows students to socialize with other students who are share the interest in skiing/snowboarding. This serves as an invaluable opportunity for the enthusiastic college skier/snowboarding to improve their athletic abilities by being exposed to other talented skiers/snowboarders. Ski and Snowboard Club members will be supportive of their fellow skiers/snowboarders, regardless of whether they are a beginner or expert.
Unlike most ski clubs at other colleges, the F&M Ski and Snowboard Club is not a competitive ski team. In fact, F&M Ski and Snowboard Club will not participate in competitive events such as races or rail-jams. Instead, the club will be composed of a variety of different skiers/snowboarders. The club will consist of ski and snowboard racers, freestyle skiers and snowboarders, and those without a preference. Furthermore, beginners will be encouraged to explore the diversity of the sports and become more familiar with their different aspects. The design of this is to educate students on how these diverse sports play a roll in media and cultural events off campus, such as the Winter Olympics, Winter X-Games, and other internationally and nationally recognized events.
