Staff at The Ware Institute

Dr. Susan Dicklitch is Director of the Ware Institute for Civic Engagement, Associate Dean of the College and Associate Professor of Government where she continues to teach courses on human rights. Dr. Dicklitch received a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Toronto. Her scholarly work focuses on human rights in Africa and political asylum in America.
My name is Lisa Wolfe and I am the Associate Director of The Ware Institute. Everyday I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work closely with students as they develop and participate in a variety of volunteer initiatives, ranging from cleaning up a local park to tutoring students in the School District of Lancaster. I also enjoy advising our exceptional interns who coordinate general requests from our community partners and recruit their fellow students to volunteer. Together we strive to provide meaningful opportunities for students to learn different ways to address the needs of the Lancaster community. Students are encouraged to stop by at any time or to send an email.

Sandi Smoker - Department Coordinator
Sandi oversees the administrative details in the office and provides support to the Ware staff. Sandi is a life-long Lancaster native and has worked at F&M since 2003.
Please visit the Ware Institute and learn more about our major service programs, internships, community-based learning courses, and volunteering opportunities the Institute has with many Lancaster community partner agencies. Stop by room 208 on the second floor of the Steinman College Center or call 717-291-4164 or email Sandi at the Institute to find out how you can have a great learning experience while helping to make a positive impact in the Lancaster community.
Beth Lichty - Volunteer Coordinator
Beth will assist with managing several on-going programs of the Ware Institute, including the Putting It Together in the Community (PIT), the United Way Day of Caring, the Holiday Gift and Food Drives, Public Service Summer Internship (PSSI) and Manheim Summer Mentoring Programs. Beth will work with our community partners in Lancaster to provide volunteer and community-based learning opportunities for our students. She will work closely with Ware Interns, students and student groups, including the College House System to help co-ordinate volunteer efforts.

In an exciting partnership between our agency, Franklin & Marshall College, and the School District of Lancaster, Rachel Sipe, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Caseworker coordinates a mentoring program where student volunteers from Franklin & Marshall are paired with students at Reynolds Middle School. Over the course of three years, participants build friendships, share in fun activities, and work together towards continued academic success. The Ware Institute connects our program with the larger picture of service and civic engagement in the Lancaster community! You can reach Rachel at F&M Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Her F&M phone 358-4641 or email her at rsipe@bbbslancaster.org
