Rights and Responsibilities
Students have the right to:
- be treated with respect, consideration, and dignity.
- be provided with appropriate privacy.
- have your medical records treated confidentially and except when required by law, be given the opportunity to request or refuse their release.
- receive specific privacy protection relating to your health information (see notice of privacy practices).
- receive information about your health care practitioner's credentials and training.
- receive complete information about your diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and prognosis.
- participate in the development of your health care plan.
- discuss any complaints/grievances you may have with the Medical Director of Appel Health Services.
- request the Health Care Practitioner of your choice or a change in practitioners depending on availability. Referrals to health care professionals outside of AHS are at your own expense.
Students are responsible for:
- keeping appointments. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify Health Services at least 24 hours in advance so that other students may be scheduled in your place.
- respecting the privacy of other patients at the check-in window
- understanding, to your satisfaction, your physician's or nurse's credentials and training and your medical treatment process. If you do not understand any part of the process, you should discuss your concern with the physician or nurse.
- treating College Health Services staff with respect and consideration.
