Applying

Applying to medical school is a complex, demanding, competitive process. That's because there are only 16,000 places in first-year medical schools for the approximately 40,000-45,000 applicants each year. This webpage is designed to assist you through the maze of the health professions schools application process.  As a reference document, it is meant to supplement your contact with Dr. Hess. While the focus of this procedural manual is applying to medical school (allopathic and osteopathic), the process is very similar for dental, veterinary, optometry, podiatric schools. There is also some overlap in the application process for physical therapy and occupational therapy, physician assistant, nurse practitioner and other clinical professions. For those of you who are considering one of the latter professions, there is quite a bit of literature in the Health Professions Office and many informative web sites.
