F&M Offers Office Paper Recycling

Franklin & Marshall College’s Facilities Management Department has a new. mobile and extremely sustainable method of collecting office paper, shredded paper, and other items on campus.

The campus’ two Sustainability Coordinators, Nic Auwaerter and Tom Simpson, collaborated on the project to put a vehicle on the road. The bicycle is the last remaining one of the original Bike Loan bicycles donated by F&M alumnus Michael Zane in 2007.

Repairs on the bike rendered it road-worthy, and the purchase and assembly of the trailer by Nic made hauling small loads possible. Tom rides the bike in response to work orders for picking up the paper.

The office paper is hauled to the Facilities warehouse where it is stockpiled and eventually taken to Lancaster City's Recycling Center by our SWAT crew. Shredded paper is added to our food waste and hauled to the Oregon Dairy for composting.

If you have questions, or would like to have an office paper recycling bin, please contact Tom at thomas.simpson@fandm.edu."
