Limiting Java update alerts

On a weekly basis Java was asking me for permission to update itself, and as an INB user, that's irritating, because I NEVER want Java to update itself.  I have found out how to stop these automatic updates on Windows.

Go to Start > All Programs > Java > Configure Java

On the resulting screen, click the Update tab.

Uncheck the "Check for Updates Automatically" box.

  • Java update auto check

You'll be prompted with a warning asking if you don't really want to check at least monthly.  Click the "Do Not Check" button.

  • Java do not check

Click OK on the original screen, and you're done.
