Student Managed Investment Portfolio is a half-credit course offered to upperclass business majors. Students enrolled in this course are responsible for making investment decisions for the Student Managed Investment Portfolio (SMIP), a portfolio of financial assets that is part of the College's endowment funds.
This course continues the study and evaluation of the theory and practice of portfolio management initiated in other business administration courses. It affords students with an opportunity for utilizing those theories and practices in the management of an actual portfolio. Students research the macro-economic outlook, analyze and choose new securities, and manage the current portfolio.
Presently, the portfolio is moving in a more sustainable and local direction, with a focus on small cap equities. In addition, the program of study includes discussions with professionals who are involved in investment management. These professionals include College trustees, administrators, investment advisors, alumni, professional financial consultants, and portfolio managers.
