Earth & Environment

When I talk to friends who attended other liberal arts colleges or even large universities, what strikes me is the fact that faculty accessibility at F&M is unlike anything I'm aware of elsewhere. Not only were faculty across departments willing to entertain my incessant questioning--often about material that I'd encountered outside the classroom in my own reading--but, even more importantly, they did so enthusiastically, as if there were no other demands on their time (which I certainly knew wasn't true!).

My faculty mentors challenged my self-perception as well as my worldview and gave me the opportunities and forceful encouragement that led directly to my pursuit of a Ph.D. in Geochemistry. My successes are, in a way, theirs as well for recognizing my potential and refusing to let me squander it.
