At F&M I learned a wide variety of facts, laboratory, field and research techniques that were an excellent foundation for graduate school in Planetary Geology.
But it was the Geology department (and the Astronomy Dept (my minor)) itself that prepared me best. The department felt like home to me because the faculty’s love for and participation in the discipline was evident and thus encouraged my own love of geology, and because neither my professors nor my peers ever questioned my ability to embark on a career in geology.
When I left F&M I felt that I was a geologist – armed with both the knowledge and the confidence to continue my chosen path. And I have.
