Franklin & Marshall College is dedicated to a lifetime of success for every student. We operate an Office of Student and Post-Graduate Development,
dedicated to preparing students to launch into their lives and careers after graduation and supporting them as alumni in the years which follow. The office offers:
Franklin & Marshall College is among the best in the nation when it comes to preparing its scholars for postgraduate success. Two-thirds of our students continue their education through postgraduate study within 10 years of graduation.
Eight percent of our alumni go on to earn a Ph.D. within six years of graduation—a remarkably high percentage for a non-research university.
The College has a full-time director of postgraduate fellowships to help students discover and pursue scholarship opportunities.
Looking for a career in the health profession? Nine in 10 qualified F&M students --those who record at least a 3.4 GPA in the sciences and math and score of 28 or higher on the MCAT -- are accepted by a medical school.
In addition to the core science curriculum, our Health Professions Adviser emphasizes non-academic areas that every medical school values: exposure to clinical medicine and a track record of leadership. F&M students have several opportunities to get hands-on experience. The College has a preceptorship program with nearby Lancaster General Health (LGH) and places volunteers with LGH, Lancaster Regional Medical Center and the SouthEast Lancaster Health Services Clinic.
Students also can become members of the student-run Emergency Medical Services team or take advantage of the College's many public health initiatives.
The student-run College Houses, Diplomatic Congress and 100 clubs offer students ample opportunities to lead. Students also may tutor their peers or do volunteer work. F&M has early assurance programs with Penn State College of Medicine and The George Washington University School of Medicine, as well as a translational research program with the University of Pennsylvania.
Law school admission counselors know the name Franklin & Marshall. Year after year, F&M sends graduates to the very best law schools in the country. In fact, in the last five years, F&M has placed students at 23 of the nation's top 25 law schools, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
Each year, 30 to 35 seniors apply to law schools, and in a typical year, about 90 percent get into at least one school of his or her choice.
Our Legal Professions Adviser begins counseling students as early as their first years at F&M. At first, the discussion may be about which classes to take or which majors will best prepare a student for a career in law (the answer: any major; law schools don’t have a preference).
By the second year, the discussion turns to depth of experience -- studying abroad, law-related internships, leadership experience and volunteer work. The final step is helping a student find a school that is a good fit and helps him or her craft a compelling personal statement.
