In the summer of 2011 Rob Hassler's ('12) internship at the Philadelphia Museum of Art was split between two different programs at the museum. For two days out of each week he was involved in different lectures, tours, and behind-the-scenes workshops with the other interns inside the museum. This provided training in the discipline of museum studies.
The other days of the week were spent in the Community Outreach Department under the main department of Education. Within the Community Outreach Department, Rob worked on a six week summer teen media program, which consisted of twenty teens ranging from 15-18 years of age who were interested in making films, acting in films, directing, and editing. Over these six weeks, Rob worked with other museum staff members as well as Big Picture Alliance, Taller Puertoricano, and Esperanza Academy Charter High School to mentor students on an assortment of different personal films and groups films that were displayed in a final screening. Rob reports that the "overall experience was a incredible opportunity to not only spend time in one of the largest museum’s in the country, but also to further my interest in working in a museum environment upon graduating." Congratulations, Rob!
