Transfer Application Instructions & Checklist

To complete an application for transfer admission to Franklin & Marshall College, please submit the following application materials by the appropriate priority deadline: May 1 for fall term applications or November 15 for spring term applications. Applications completed after the priority deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis. 

Application Checklist

☑   Official College Transcripts
  • Transcripts must be submitted for all post-secondary coursework, even if completed at multiple institutions
  • Request that your institution(s) mail an official transcript directly to F&M's Office of Admission: Franklin & Marshall College, Office of Admission, P.O. Box 3003, Lancaster, PA 17604‐3003. We cannot accept your transcript from you; it must be mailed directly to us from the host institution

☑   Secondary School (High School) Transcript
  • A final high school transcript must be mailed directly from the secondary institution. Please mail to F&M's Office of Admission: Franklin & Marshall College, Office of Admission, P.O. Box 3003, Lancaster, PA 17604‐3003
  • It is helpful to have the high school include the Secondary School Final Report, which can be downloaded and printed by visiting the "Recommenders and FERPA" tab on your F&M Common Application

☑   Standardized Test Scores (SAT/ACT) or Standardized Test Option
  • Transfer applicants may choose to submit either standardized test score results or use the Standardized Test Option
  • If submitting SAT/ACT scores, official results must be forwarded directly from the Educational Testing Service (SAT) or the American College Testing Service (ACT) to Franklin & Marshall College. F&M’s SAT code number is 2261; ACT is 3574
  • Transfer applicants using the Standardized Test Option must submit two writing samples from college-level coursework. Submissions should include professors’ comments, grades, and a description of the assignment. Samples written in high school, jointly-written papers, or ungraded assignments will not be considered. Lab reports, presentations, or short answer responses are not recommended. 
  • To submit writing samples, send in electronic format (ex. PDF, GoogleDoc) to the Transfer Admission Coordinator at  or upload directly on the F&M application portal. Paper materials format should be sent to the Admission Office by FAX (717-291-4389) or mail (Office of Admission, PO Box 3003, Lancaster, PA 17604).

☑   College Report
  • The College Report may be downloaded and printed by visiting the "Recommenders & FERPA" tab on your Common Application
  • You may send this form electronically or hand-deliver it to the appropriate college official at your current or former institution who has the authority to report on your most-recent academic standing at the college. This is typically a staff member in the Registrar's Office or the Office of the Dean of Students.   
  • The college official may choose to send the completed College Report electronically by emailing a scanned copy to  or by faxing it to (717) 291-4389 
  • The College Report is required in all cases; exceptions are not granted under any circumstances.

☑   Letter of Recommendation from a College Professor
  • The recommendation may be submitted electronically by completing the Common Application process. For more information, visit the "Recommenders and FERPA" section on your Common Application. 
  • If a professor prefers to submit a paper copy of the recommendation, he or she can send the letter directly to the following address: Franklin & Marshall College, Office of Admission, P.O. Box 3003, Lancaster, PA 17604-3003

☑   Mid-Term Report
  • If you are currently completing college-level coursework at another institution, you are asked to submit a Mid-term Report.  To download the form, visit the "Recommenders and FERPA" section on your Common Application. 
  • You may submit your Mid-Term Report to F&M electronically by emailing a scanned copy to  or by faxing it to (717) 291-4389 

☑ Application Fee
  • The fee may be paid electronically by completing the Common Application
  • An application fee waiver is available to transfer applicants who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant Program. To request a fee waiver form, please email the Transfer Admission Coordinator at

Financial Aid Checklist

For admitted domestic U.S. transfer applicants, F&M will meet 100% of institutionally-determined financial aid need throughout the duration of full-time study. There is no financial aid available for international transfer applicants. To apply for financial aid, transfer applicants must complete the following steps by the appropriate priority deadline:

☑   Submit the Common Application
  • If applying for aid, check "Yes" to the question, "Do you intend to pursue need-based financial aid?"

☑   Access your F&M MyAid Account
  • Upon successful submission of the Common Application, the F&M Office of Financial Aid will send you a Financial Aid Student ID that will enable you to start an F&M MyAid account. 
  • MyAid allows you online access to view documents received by the aid office, documents in need of completion, and other messages specific to you. 

☑   Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

☑   Complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE
  • After submitting a completed PROFILE, the College Board will email you with instructions on how to submit the previous year's tax documents electronically through the IDOC system (
  • F&M's PROFILE code is 2261.

☑   Provide any additional information as required by the F&M Office of Fianancial aid

All financial aid application requirements must be submitted by the appropriate priority deadline. Incomplete and/or missing financial aid documentation may delay the release of your admission decision and could negatively impact the decision-making process.

For International Applicants

F&M accepts transfer applications from international students. International applicants must submit complete original academic credentials as part of the application process; photocopies or scanned documents may be submitted as unofficial documentation, but admission will not be granted to any applicant with unofficial academic records. The TOEFL, IELTS or other recognized test of English language ability is required for students whose native language is not English.  However, this requirement is waived if a student has been studying in an English speaking environment for at least 3 years. There is no financial aid available for international transfer students.
