Welcome to the first issue of Active Voice, the newsletter of the F&M Writing Center! Created with several audiences in mind, this publication is intended to be a vehicle for sharing with the college community recent activity at the Center, thoughts about writing and the writing process, as well as news about current and alumni tutors.
In this issue, we feature a remembrance of Ann Campbell, the Writing Center's beloved secretary from 1978-2000; a short history of Diagnothian Hall, our home since 2008; writing tips from tutor Brad Woodman, our own "Doc Writing"; a profile of Writing Center alum Justin B. Hopkins; and an announcement of the this year's winners of the Whitesell Prize for Writing in General Education.
In future issues, we plan to include features on faculty writers, an investigation into the tenacious—and some would say insidious—persistence of the five paragraph essay model, and more!
