Memphis, Saqqara and the Great Pyramids of Giza

A visit to the open air museum of Memphis, founded by King Menes to unite Upper and Lower Egypt in 3100 BC and therefore the oldest capital of Egypt. Students saw the impressive Colosses of Ramesses II and the Alabaster Sphinx, carved in honor of an unknown Pharaoh in addition to a number of other artifacts and statues.

The Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara is the oldest stone pyramid in Egypt.

  • On one of our first tours in Egypt we visited the open air museum of Memphis, the Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, the Great Pyramids and the Great Sphinx located in Giza just outside of Cairo.
