Originally from Spain, where she got her B. A. in English at the University of Santiago de Compostela (1995), Beatriz Caamaño Alegre obtained her Ph. D. (2004) in Spanish literature at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Her dissertation dealt with the contradictions in the construction of femininity during the Spanish II Republic and the Francoist dictatorship. Her current research focuses on Spanish female painters and the representation of women and art in literary texts during the first half of the 20th century. At F&M, she teaches both language and literature courses.
