The Benjamin Rush Society for Healing Arts Professionals is named for a charter member of the college's board of trustees, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a preeminent physician of the Revolutionary War era. The Society was conceived in 1987 by Stanley Dudrick, M.D. '57, in conjunction with the capital fund drive for the Martin Science Center. It was revitalized in 1998 with an expanded mission and revitalized goals.

The Society currently exists as an organization of umni, students, and faculty with a connection to the health sciences and an interest in matters related to the vitality of the pre-healing arts program at Franklin & Marshall. The Society's mission and purpose is to:

  • address the interests of alumni working in the health sciences
  • promote opportunities for interaction, mentoring, research, and internships between alumni and students pursuing the health sciences
  • provide programs and sponsor lecturers in the health sciences for the benefit of the entire Franklin & Marshall community
  • serve as an advocate for the pre-healing arts program
  • promotea nationwide network of Franklin & Marshall health care and health science professionals
