You do not have to be a fashion designer or artist to enter. The contest is open to the entire Franklin & Marshall community. Anyone who has a desire to turn trash into treasure, to create fun and wearable garments from discarded materials, to promote sustainability, or to tout their fashion knowledge is encouraged to participate.
HOW TO ENTER:
Ideas and creations submitted for entry must be the original work of the submitting applicant. Applicants are invited to create wearable artwork/fashion using recycled, repurposed, reused and/or found materials. Collaborations will be allowed. However, only one prize will be awarded to a winning entry regardless of how many people collaborated on its creation. Pieces must be durable enough for wear in the show.
ENTRY DEADLNE & IMPORTANT DATES:
If you intend to participate, please send an email to as soon as possible. To be eligible for inclusion in the show, your completed entry form must be received by midnight on April 7th, 2012. In it, you should provide a detailed description of your design, including 1) Why it is fashionable, 2) What materials are being used, and 3) What will happen to the garment following the show. In addition, please include the name(s) of all designers and a script of what you would like to have read by the MC during your presentation. You will be notified of your acceptance into the show by April 11th, 2012.
Entries will be selected based upon:
· Percentage of recycled/repurposed/reused materials in the garment
IF YOU ARE SELECTED:
Selected contestants will be notified on or before April 11th, 2012 by email. At this time, further logistical details about the show will be given. Anyone whose creation is chosen for the show will be responsible for supplying a model who will wear the garment in both the dress rehearsal and the fashion show. You are allowed to model your own garment.
Fashions modeled in the show will be judged by a panel of impartial judges who have knowledge of fashion and/or sustainable concepts.
“Trashies” (recycled award statues) will be given to the 1st place winners in each of 3 categories:
1) Best use of recycled and found materials
2) Most fashionable
3) Judges’ choice
