We anticipate a major in Bioinformatics soon. Courses in bioinformatics include the areas of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science. Sample courses include:
Biology:
Principles of Evolution, Ecology, and Heredity
Principles of Physiology and Development
Cell Biology
Molecular Genetics
Biostatistics
Chemistry:
General Chemistry I
General Chemistry II
Organic Chemistry I
Mathematics:
Calculus I
Discrete Mathematics
Introduction to Computer Science
Data Structures
Algorithm Design & Complexity
Introduction to Bioinformatics
Students will also be instrumental to the design of the bioinformatics program. Five students each year will be supported to help faculty develop laboratory projects, protocols, and bioinformatics handouts for new and existing courses.
