The demand for science teachers is great and many Biology majors pursue careers teaching in primary or secondary school. Teaching at a private school does not require certification, and many of our graduates have gone immediately into teaching at a private school. However, teaching at a public school requires teacher certification. Franklin & Marshall students can receive teacher certification through a cooperative program with Millersville University. See the Educational Support Services/Cooperative Programs of Study section of the College Catalog. Many states now have special programs, incentives, and financial awards for students interested in teaching science in public schools. There are also many opportunities to receive certification in special, accelerated graduate programs.
