Bonchek House took a busload of 45 people to Philadelphia on Jan. 20, 2013. Twenty of us got a special tour of the Franklin Institute and the TItanic exhibition from Dennis Wint, director of the FI and F&M P'16. Others went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Eastern State Penitentiary, the Academy of Natural Sciences, and the The Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians. The bus was paid for by Bonchek House Congress, and Prof. Sternberg subsidized museum admission costs.

  • Many pizzas were consumed during the Super Bowl party sponsored by Bonchek House Congress on, of all days, Super Bowl Sunday.

  • Students polish off the last few fassnachts in honor of the local Pennsylavnia Dutch mode of Fat Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2013) -  getting ready for Lent.

  • Carol Metzker was invited by Emmanuel Arthur '15 to speak about her book, Facing the Monster: How One Person Can Fight Child Slavery, during an UnCommon Hour on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Inspiration and lunch were both served to about 30 students.

  • On Feb. 27, Chinese instructors Hongchang Yao and Shuai Shao prepared delicious food for their students and the residents of Bonchek House, right in our own kitchen. This week was Szechuan style: Kung Pao Chicken, and Ma Po Tofu.

  • A small flock of Bonchekers went to Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area on Sunday, March 3, to see a large flock of snow geese near the beginning of their arduous Spring migration towards northern Canada.

  • Students, Prof. Sternberg and Dean Proffitt discussed Louis Masur's short history of the Civil War over lunch on Feb. 5 and March 5, led by Alexandria Sauer '15 and JulianRivas-Firpi in February, and by history professor Louise Stevenson in March.

  • RA Kapz Kapur organized an open viewing on the Bonchek Great Room large screen of the March 5 UEFA Champions League match between Manchester United and Real Madrid. Ronaldo scored the winner for Madrid.

  • Marine geochemist Chris Reddy had dinner in Bonchek College House on March 7, the day of his Common Hour presentation about lessons learned from his role as a scientist in stydying the Deepwater Horizon spill.

  • Prof. Sternberg and four international students went to Lancaster's beautiful Fulton Theatre to see the energetic and highly entertaining musical A Chorus Line on March 13. Boncheker Laurel Haitoff was in the chorus line!

  • About 60 students joined Prof. Sternberg, Dean Proffitt, Provost Steiner and Prof. Stinchfield on 3/21 for dinner in the catering suite.  Prof. Stinchfield updated his climate change forecasts from orientaton of 2011.

Bonchek and Brooks House co-sponsored an old-timey contra dance on March 23, with caller Andrew Bishop, and live music provided by the Gooseberries. Apple-based refreshments were served. A good time was had by all (except that one young guy with three left feet).

  • Bonchekers donated meal swipes so that about 100 residents from the community could be fed a quality dinner in the Catering Suite on April 6 for this semester's COD.  Your friendly servers are featured in the photo.

  • On a beautiful Spring April 7, Prof. Louise Stevenson of the Department of History describes the Battle of Gettysburg to Bonchek and other students on a House-subsidized field trip in this sesquicentennial year.

  • Over 80 of our Bonchek House seniors met on April 11 for an evening of conversation, food, and liquid refreshments at Iron Hill. Good luck to all of you!

  • Bonchekers watched this viral classic about our wasteful society during UnCommon Hour on April 16 to prepare for the Common Hour visit of its director, Annie Leonard.

  • Dr. Ronald Granieri (Office of the Secretary of Defense) packed the House on April 16 with his talk, The Black Giant and the Giant Surprise: Helmut Kohl, German Reunification, and the Unpredictability of History.

  • Kent Trachte receives Lantern Award

  • Departing Dean of the College Trachte receives our annual Lantern Award for a member of the administration/staff for special efforts on behalf of the House.  At bagel breakfast, April 19.

  • Bonchek Congress organized the annual all-campus Classy Ball on April 20, with refreshments, music, and fireworks in the distance.  As DJ Chan McNamarah spun Call Me, Baby, Bonchekers responded on the dance floor.
