4th Annual Fall Festival of French and Francophone Films

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall will present its fourth annual festival of French and Francophone films in October and November. The films are made possible with the support of the Africana Studies Department, the Joseph International Center, and the Center for Liberal Arts and Society.

All of the films will be shown, free of charge, in Stahr Auditorium, Stager Hall at 7 p.m. Dates and films are subject to change.

Thursday, October 2
La Vie en Rose (France, 2007, 140 mins, French w/English subtitles)
Directed by Olivier Dahan, this film is an impressionistic portrait of the legendary French icon Edith Piaf. Marion Cotillard earned an Academy Award for her portrayal of "The Little Sparrow."

Persepolis (France, 2005, 95 mins, French w/English subtitles)
Directed by Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi. This animated film is a poignant coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken young girl that begins during the Iranian Revolution.

Dreams of Dust (Burkina Faso, 2006, 86 mins, French w/English subtitles)
Directed by Laurent Sagues. A Nigerian peasant who has lost his entire family in a terrible accident tries to rebuild his life in a gold mine.

Moliere (France, 2007, 120 mins, French w/English subtitles)
Directed by Laurent Tirard. The life of the famous French playwright known as Moliere.


Saturday, November 1
Flanders (France, 2006, 91 mins, French w/English subtitles)
Directed by Bruno Dumont. The terrible reality of war strikes and a group of friends must act in accordance with their environment.
