Noteworthy Events in the Department of Classics

Professors Shawn O'Bryhim and Athanassios Vergados received the Copernicus prize at a conference entitled "Truth, Fiction, and Reality: An Interdisciplinary Approach" held in Katowice, Poland on October 24, 2008. Dr. Maria Pachalska, one of the organizers of the conference, described the Copernicus Prize as "the highest award given by the Polish Neurological Society." Professor Vergados' paper was entitled "The Homeric Hymn to Hermes: Poetry and Deception." Professor O'Bryhim delivered a paper on "Truth from Fiction in Catullus' Gellius Cycle."
