Reactivate or Recognize a Club

The Club Recognition and Reactivation Form form should be used by newly established and previously active clubs seeking Club Council recognition.

A group of students interested in forming a new organization may do so by following these steps for RECOGNITION:

STEP 1

Consider what your group will be and what it will do.  Answering the following questions will help you to complete the Recognition/Reactivation Form:

·   What will your organization be called?

·   What is the purpose of your organization?

·   What are the goals of your organization, and how will you reach those goals?

·   How will your organization contribute to the F&M community?

·   What events and fundraisers are you planning?

·   Who will lead your organization? (You will need to identify a president and a treasurer for your organization.  Additional officers are optional.)

·   Do you have enough student interest to establish your organization? (You will need to provide a list of at least 10 students who are interested in joining your organization.)

·   Who will act as your organization’s advisor?  (This person must be a current FPS who has already agreed to serve in this role for your organization.)

STEP 2

Write a constitution for your organization that includes the following:

Article I: Introduction (name, purpose/goal of the organization)

Article II: Membership (eligibility, selection, qualifications/responsibilities of members)

Article III: Executive Board/Officers (position titles and responsibilities, selection/removal process)

Article IV: Advisor (selection, qualifications/responsibilities)

Article V: Meetings (frequency, structure, attendance)

Article VI: Amendments to the Constitution (suggesting/ratifying process)

Additional information, including sample constitutions from currently recognized organizations, can be found on the Club Council website (link?)

STEP 3

STEP 4

What do I have to do to get my club started?

A group of students interested in reactivating an organization that was once a recognized organization, but is currently inactive, may do so by following these steps for REACTIVATION:

STEP 1

Schedule a meeting with the OCP to get information on the club as it existed previously:

·   Constitution

·   Student leaders

·   FPS Advisor

You may find it helpful to contact the former student leaders and FPS advisor.  This step may be skipped if those individuals are no longer at F&M.

STEP 2

See the information on starting a new group (p. ___) to ensure that you are prepared to answer questions related to your club and that the constitution is complete.

STEP 3

Visit the Club Council website to complete the Recognition/Reactivation Form.  Your organization’s constitution will need to be included.

STEP 4

Schedule a meeting with Club Council (by following the link at the end of the Recognition/Reactivation Form).
