Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if there is inclement weather?

Weather permitting, the ceremony is held on Hartman Green in the center of campus. Should we have inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center (ASFC). Updated information can be found on the day of the ceremony by checking the College website or by calling 717-291-4003.

Do we need tickets for the Ceremony?

No, tickets are not required, and there is no limit to the number of seats available for families for the ceremony even if it is held inside, but we do recommend that you arrive early to find your seats.

Where do I park the day of the Ceremony?

There are multiple parking lots available during the weekend.  Signage will be visible along Harrisburg Avenue, and we will also be using remote parking on the North Campus, with shuttle service to campus.  Appropriate signage will indicate these options, and there is also a parking map on the Commencement website.

Is there special parking and seating for handicapped guests?

Yes, there is a convenient drop-off location, and special parking and seating for handicapped guests. If you or a guest require special accommodations, please contact Katie Guild in the College Advancement Office at or at (717) 358-5919. She can assist in arranging for special accommodations.

What is the Baccalaureate Service?

Each year, members of the senior class put together a program for the Baccalaureate Service.  It is a lively event that celebrates the time the class spent at Franklin & Marshall.  All graduates, their families and friends, and all members of the Franklin & Marshall community are invited to attend. It will take place on Friday, May 10 and 4:30 p.m.

Can we stay overnight on campus?

The College is making space available in the residence halls for parents and guests.  Rooms will be available Friday, May 10, with check-in at Old Main, room 101-B from 11:00 a.m. until 4 p.m., and checkout by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. If you arrive after 4:00 p.m. on Friday, check-in will be at the Office of Public Safety in Marshall Buchanan.  Room rates are $25 per person for double occupancy and $30 per person for single occupancy.  Bed linens are provided but towels will not be available. The reservations form should be completed and returned with checks payable to Franklin & Marshall College by April 26, 2013.

While parents and guests often enjoy this opportunity to be "in residence," please understand that residence halls do not offer private and personal accommodations.  For those uncomfortable with a group living environment, we recommend making off-campus arrangements.
