Letter From the Chair
I am delighted to introduce you to the first newsletter for the Council for Women (CFW) of Franklin & Marshall College. Thank you to our Membership Chair Alysse Vaccaro '11 and all her great work. If good things are worth waiting for, then this endeavor is earmarked for greatness, as it's been more than 40 years in the making.
It is our hope and expectation to connect and build powerful relationships among the many women affiliated with F&M, whether they are students, alumnae, faculty, trustees or friends. Our goals include the furthering of the education of all women and cultivating leadership.
The Council has accomplished its ambitious goals for 2012: sponsorship of a paid student internship for the summer; three key events (Senior Women's Lunch, Reunion weekend networking event and Homecoming Tailgate tent); and Council membership exceeding 100. In November, the steering committee will meet to review strategic plans—membership, committee structure, fundraising, internship and mentoring.
For 2013 we are working on a late winter/early spring event to potentially include a Senior Women's Lunch, recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Alice Drum Women's Center and the 40th anniversary of the graduation of the first four-year coed class, and a presentation of the Helen Stahr Hartman awards.
We are constantly striving to learn how the CFW can better serve its constituents' needs, and this newsletter represents one path for the opening of that dialogue.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth Clark Mackey '75
Chair of the Council for Women of Franklin & Marshall College
