Membership & Committees

Want to be a CFW Member?

Our only membership requirement is participation! We hope all members will be as active as their schedule allows - attending events, participating on conference calls, and offering ideas on how to best further our mission.
Committees generally meet via conference call once a month in order to share news and work on specific projects.
Once you have chosen a committee, please email Alysse and Liz with your choice and they will put you in contact with the Committee Chair.

Committee Name Committee Description/Mission
Events Committee promotes the CFW’s mission through quality programming. This can be accomplished by creating new and/or stand-alone programs or by partnering with other organizations/departments/events connected to the College or other organizations that align with the CFW’s mission. These events may be held on campus, in the F&M regional community and the community at large.
Engagement Committee promotes awareness of the CFW and its mission and fosters relationships among CFW members. It reaches out to and engages with CFW constituencies, whether it is other CFW members, students, alumni, or our entire F&M community, and actively seeks ways to engage women with the CFW. The committee invites interested women to join the CFW, maintains an up-to-date list of CFW membership, and identifies women that could take a leadership role within the CFW.
Philanthropy/Finance Committee partners with the College’s Office of Advancement to foster philanthropic support from alumni and friends of the College to advance the initiatives of the CFW. It also has oversight of the CFW’s finances and annual budget. The chair (or co-chair) acts as Treasurer of the CFW.
Internship Committee

defines and finds internship opportunities for F&M students in an organization that focuses on women’s issues and/or pairs the student with an F&M alumna. The committee works with the Office of Student and Post-Graduate Development, the Office of Advancement and other offices as needed to secure internships with organizations and recruit students. They recognize both student and employer participants, determine funding (by CFW/College office or employer) for internships, and make improvements to the program.

Awards & Recognition Committee recognizes alumni and students who have distinguished themselves throughout their lives. The committee seeks nominations and identifies candidates for the Helen Stahr Hartman Award and makes recommendations to the Steering Committee for approval. The committee also seeks nominations and identifies candidates (alumni, faculty, professional staff and students) for the CFW’s Spotlight Series. The committee identifies ways to thank and recognize alumni and student volunteers who support the College.
Community Intiatives Committee acknowledges our standing in the world as women who enjoy privileges many women throughout the world cannot. We endeavor to lend our voices and our support to the improvement of educational opportunities for women locally, nationally and internationally.
