Franklin & Marshall EMS is working toward having a heart-safe campus. Our goal is to train and certify students and staff members in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid in preparation for any emergent situation.
Members of F&M EMS lead classes to train and certify those interested in BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR and first aid according to the American Heart Association standards. Each certification lasts for two years, and recertifications are also available.
BLS CPR certifications prepare people to quickly respond to cardiac emergencies. Courses are taught according to American Heart Association standards. The four-hour course teaches students to recognize cardiac distress, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), properly perform compressions and ventilations, and relieve a choking victim. Students will also be informed how to aid adults, children, and infants in CPR, assisted and alone. Courses are $20 a person and are offered on Sundays from 6-10 p.m. Recertifications through the American Heart Association are offered at half of the cost. Courses can be split into two 2-hour increments and taken during the week. Alternative times are available.
First aid certifications provide students with the knowledge and ability to address injury emergencies. Courses are taught according to American Heart Association standards. The 3-hour course teaches students how to properly splint and wrap a possible sprain or broken bone, and how to stop bleeding. Courses are $20 a person and are also offered on Sundays from 6-9 p.m. Recertifications through the American Heart Association are offered at half of the cost. Alternative times can be offered if needed.
Non-certified BLS CPR and first aid training is also available.Classes are 45 minutes long. Pricing is determined on a case-by-case basis, and there are set prices for groups, depending on group size. Training is a great way to learn the basics and to begin to feel comfortable with CPR and first aid.
