The Squad

The operations of F&M EMS would not be possible without the dedicated service of our volunteer EMTs.  Would you like to join our team?

Officers

Officers are the leaders of the F&M EMS team. They maintain both the day-to-day operations of the squad and establish the group's long-term goals.

  • Heather Croy '13
  • Chief, Supervisor

Heather has wanted to be a healthcare provider since she was 7 years old, and figured she would get her feet wet by becoming an EMT. She took the class offered by the Lancaster Emergency Medical Services Association (LEMSA) her first year and joined F&M EMS the following semester. Heather quickly moved up the ranks and is very excited to be the Chief! Heather is a Biochemistry and Molecular biology major and plans to use her experience as an EMT to help her become a pediatric surgeon.

  • Matthew Momjian '14
  • Captain, Supervisor

Matthew has had a fascination with ambulances ever since his near-drowning event in 1997. He took the LEMSA EMT class in his first semester at F&M and has run more than 100 calls with F&M EMS.  He also works as an EMT in Wilmington, DE.  Matthew is a music major from Newtown Square, Pa., and hopes to someday become a trauma surgeon.

  • Janice Karbachinskiy '15
  • Lieutenant, Crew Chief

Janice got a taste of first-aid skills through her experience as a lifeguard and decided she wanted to take the next step in first-aid response by becoming an EMT the summer of 2010. Having a previous interest in medicine, EMS gave her a good hands-on perspective of the differences first responders make by running with the Morris Minute Men in New Jersey. She is now excited to add to her experiences with F&M EMS. Janice is from Harding, N.J.

  • John "Jack-Jack" Madden '14
  • Sergeant, Training Director

Jack started his EMT training with LEMSA in the second semester of his freshman year and joined the squad at the start of his sophomore year. He became the Director of Training for the following spring semester and graduated to Crew Chief at the end of his sophomore year.

  • Katie Ertel '13
  • Logistics Director

Katie has been interested in the medical field for as long as she can remember, and was very excited when she learned of the F&M EMS program during her freshman year. She completed her EMS training during the summer of 2010 in Reading, PA. Katie is a biology major and psychology minor, and hopes to continue practicing as an EMT in preparation for PA school. She has recently become the Logistics Director, and feels very privileged to be able to help students as well as promote safety on the F&M campus.

Clinical Members

Clinical members form duty shifts and are responsible for patient care in the field.

  • Emily Christie '15
  • Crew Chief
  • Carlton Christie '15
  • Carlton became an EMT to make a difference in his community and to provide care in a prehospital setting. Carlton was certified as an EMT in 2011 and joined F&M EMS in spring 2012. Carlton joined F&MS EMS to provide for his classmates and develop his skills as an EMT while in college. Carlton hopes to one day be a doctor and dedicate his life to serving those who are in need.

  • Meghan Maloney '13
  • Maayan Shalvi '15
  • After becoming a lifeguard in high school, Maayan decided to complete the New Jersey EMT-B course with two of her good friends from home. Unlike most of her fellow squad members, Maayan is not planning on studying medicine. Rather, she is considering a double major in mathematics and economics. She is excited to help the community as an EMT at both F&M and in her hometown of Demarest, N.J.

  • Sara Shusterman '13
  • Keenly interested in medicine, Sara decided to take her EMT class at JeffStat in order to learn more and help others. She joined the squad in fall 2010. Sara is a neuroscience major and religious studies minor from Richboro, Pa.

  • Asurayya Worrede-Mahdi '13
  • Anna Yanisko '14
  • Being interested in the medical field her whole life, Anna decided to get her EMT Certification during the summer of 2011 after learning about F&M EMS freshman year. She loves working in EMS because she is able to help others, serve her community, and learn a lot along the way. Being from the small town of Barto, Pennsylvania, working in EMS also allows Anna to broaden her experiences. When she is not with her fellow F&M EMTs, Anna focuses on her double Public Health and Dance majors and enjoys dancing with the F&M Dance Company
