Cognos Reporting Tool

Cognos is a new web-based reporting tool for Franklin & Marshall College’s faculty and professional staff. It is part of Project BOOST, F&M’s Enterprise Resource Planning Project that launched in 2012 to upgrade software systems managing student and academic information, human resources, finances and admission.

Cognos Reporting Tool provides a single reporting solution everyone can use to answer critical business questions as well as providing the ability to generate reports from a list of self-serve report types. All reports can be exported to multiple formats such as Excel, PDF, CSV and HTML. Training and documentation for employees Cognos access is provided below.

Target audience: All current users who actively use the Cognos Reporting Tool.

Cognos Reporting Tool Training Sessions

Training Overview/Description: The primary goal of this session is to be a refresher on using the Cognos BI Reporting Tool as well as to provide an overview of Cognos from the end user perspective including basic and advanced Cognos navigation, report output options, running reports, home views and drill through explanation.  Included in this training is basic Operational Data Store (ODS) overview and how the ODS works with Cognos.  We will also cover basic Cognos troubleshooting on approved browsers, including IE 9/10 and Mozilla Firefox.  Participants are encouraged to bring the laptop computer they will be running reports on (if applicable), so that settings can be adjusted at the training to successfully run all reports.

Please bring your laptop computer if you have one.

Cognos Community Reports - Training for enhanced report versions to be released at the end of April 2014


Target audience: All current users who are "budget managers" who actively use the Community Reports within Cognos.

  • Please note that the first weeks training is reserved for Program/Academic Chairs and their Coordinators
  • The 2nd week of training is open to all
  • On-going additional monthly training will be available for those that can not attend the sessions scheduled in April

Cognos Community Reports Training Sessions

Training Overview/Description: The primary goal of this session is to be a refresher on using the Community reports created within Cognos to manage both operating and non-operating budgets.    We will cover specific enhancements since the initial release of the reports which include: the ability to run multiple budgets within one report, security which prevents "invalid combination" errors, refresh cababilities, and more.

Please bring your laptop computer if you have one.    If you do not have one or would prefer not to bring one, computers will be availabe in the room.
