Even the greatest amount of care in completing financial aid application can result in unintentional mistakes. Believe it or not, the FAFSA and PROFILE formulas are designed to automatically flag major errors. If your application is selected because of an error, you will be notified of the error and asked to correct and update the information either by going online or by submitting the corrections directly to the financial aid office. FAFSA corrections can be done online. PROFILE corrections and updates need to be submitted directly to the Office of Financial Aid.
While need-based financial aid cannot be disbursed until all corrections and updates are complete and accurate, there is a little time built into the process to accommodate this back and forth parlay of updates and corrections. Though not desirable for applicants, it is a normal and expected aspect of applying for financial aid. So it is important to be aware that errors can occur and updates can be required. Be prepared to make and submit those corrections or updates, and remain encouraged that you are not alone in the process. Others are doing the same, and we in the financial aid office are here to help.
