Course Assistant: Students should have taken the course for which they are assisting. They will work with the course instructor to conduct help sessions, grade homework, develop laboratory projects, create written materials, and maintain web pages. Laboratory Assistant: Students will facilitate the successful operation of chemistry laboratories by making solutions, preparing unknowns, cleaning laboratory glassware and benches, and obtaining and setting up equipment necessary for each laboratory. It is essential that the assistant report for work 10 minutes before the start of the laboratory, that they listen to the lab lecture unless other functions are expected, and that they clean the laboratory when the laboratory is over. The student must have successfully completed the laboratory to be considered for the job, must have good laboratory skills, and must be willing to follow instructions carefully. (10 to 16) Four hours per week at $7.25 per hour.
During the summer and over January break students will work with Lisa Mertzman and/or a faculty member. The job includes cleaning and restocking lockers, inventorying chemicals and glassware, cleaning and polishing lab benches, moving equipment, testing laboratory procedure, and completing other processes essential to the welfare of the department. At least one course in College Chemistry is required. Must obey safety requirements. Generally 40 hours per week at $7.25 per hour.
